Matthew Briggs serves as Hive’s Customs Enforcement Advisor for the Eastern Caribbean. He is a highly seasoned border security professional with more than 32 years of experience in operational and leadership roles within the U.S. Government. During his tenure with the U.S. Border Patrol (USBP), Mr. Briggs held various positions, including Assistant Chief Patrol Agent at the National Targeting Center. In this role, he spearheaded the launch of USBP's anti-terrorism operations nationwide. Serving as Chief Watch Commander, Mr. Briggs provided oversight for floor operations at both the Office of Field Operations and the USBP. In 2019, Mr. Briggs served with the U.S. Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) Office of Intelligence as the Field Intelligence Director at Joint Task Force West in San Antonio, Texas.
Before joining the Border Patrol, Mr. Briggs served as a police officer in Arizona at the local and state levels, specializing as a gang unit intelligence officer. Deputy Patrol Agent in Charge Briggs received an honorable discharge from the United States Marine Corps in 1989, where he served as a primary marksmanship instructor and was assigned to the USMC Rifle Team.
Throughout his extensive career, Mr. Briggs has actively participated in a wide array of endeavors and operations, including supervising firearms training at a Sector level, engaging in undercover narcotics operations, and providing leadership instruction at the Supervisory Border Patrol Agent Technical Training Course. Mr. Briggs was called upon to play a pivotal role in establishing the USBP’s Arizona Joint Field Command in April 2011 and, subsequently, the Joint Task Force West in December 2014. His exceptional contributions have been recognized with a Commissioners' Award for Integration.
He is also a graduate of the CBP Leadership Institute at the Chicago Booth School of Business. He successfully completed his capstone project, overseeing the Miami Field Office Mission Support Integration Project.
