Sam Brothers is a long-time industry leader, and founder, in the field of mobile forensics. He began building his own PC’s in 1989 while in college where he graduated with a Bachelor’s in Business Administration (BBA) in Information Systems. He immediately jumped in with a small startup company (DBLS) performing network engineering and specializing in Microsoft Windows. He sold that successful business after over a decade and began working for the U.S. federal government, specifically for U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP).
A year after Mr. Brothers started (2005), he began performing digital forensics on mobile devices for U.S. Government cases and then founded the U.S. CBP Digital Forensics program. This program grew over his 12-year tenure from just himself to over 60 examiners in the nation-wide CBP program. While at CBP, Mr. Brothers not only completed several hundred cases, he also served on many Digital Forensics Best-Practice organizations to establish the field of Mobile Forensics. Mr. Brothers was heavily engaged with a world-wide network of U.S. and international organizations including: SWGDE (Chairman of the Forensic Committee), AAFS (Program Committee Chair for the Digital and Multimedia Section), OSAC (Founding member and Co-Chair for the Digital Evidence Sub Committee), and NIST (Guest Scientist for Mobile Forensics). While at CBP, he was repeatedly requested by CBP and DHS Executive level management both to present current forensic techniques and to deliver training in digital forensics techniques and methods to multiple international law enforcement entities, including: the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), the RCMP Security Service, and several other European Union high-level law enforcement agencies.
Mr. Brothers currently holds over 20 different Digital Forensic certifications including: GCIH, GCFE, CFCE, EnCE, ACE, CCFP, AME, CCME, CCUDME, MPSC, CCLO, CCPA, C)PTE, DFCP, CDFR, CCE, C|EH, CIFI, CompTIA A+, CompTIA Security+, CompTIA iNet+, CompTIA Network+, and DEASTP. Additionally, he has written several of these certifications for numerous organizations as well.
Sam is also an accomplished magician and enjoys teaching younger magicians card magic (a specialty, Mr. Brothers is well known for). He is also a father to two amazing children and enjoys spending every moment he can with them as they navigate the end of high school and the beginning of their college careers.
Sam leads Hive’s new and growing digital forensics portfolio and serves as Hive’s Digital Forensics Advisor (DFA) for the Regional Security System Digital Forensics Lab (RSSDFL) project, where Hive is currently assisting the U.S. Government with digital forensics advisory and training services.
