Vanessa L. McKeon serves as one of Hive’s Customs Enforcement Advisors for the Eastern Caribbean. Mrs. McKeon has more than 25 years of experience in operational and leadership roles as a highly seasoned border security professional having served along the U.S.’s Southwest Border in multiple sectors and five duty locations. During her tenure with the U.S. Border Patrol (USBP), Mrs. McKeon held various positions, including her last position upon retirement as the Patrol Agent in Charge (PAIC) of the Carrizo Springs Station. As PAIC she was responsible for oversight of all administrative and enforcement operations in the station’s area of responsibility which included 2,407 square miles and over 250 Border Patrol Agents.
Mrs. McKeon previously served as the Deputy Patrol Agent in Charge of the Carrizo Springs Station, as Supervisory Border Patrol Agent at the Brownsville and Uvalde Stations, and as Field Operations Supervisor, and Executive Officer of Law Enforcement Operations at Del Rio Sector Headquarters. While stationed in Brownsville, she served as Lead Advisor for Explorer Post 2966, and was a member of the Horse Patrol. She served as a certified Firearms Instructor, held positions in Public Affairs, and worked as a Training Officer. Prior to leaving Brownsville Station, she served as the Operation Jumpstart Military Liaison. While serving in Uvalde as a Field Operations Supervisor, she was detailed to Del Rio Sector Headquarters as Acting Assistant Chief Patrol Agent on numerous occasions. She held various positions in Del Rio Sector, such as key planner for Operational Requirements Based Budget Program and sector coordinator for self-inspect programs, and served as the Operation Stonegarden liaison.
From 2013 until her retirement, she served as the Managing Coordinator for the Checkpoint Assessment Team, one of the catalysts for a national program. In January 2014, she was detailed to U.S. Border Patrol Headquarters in Washington, DC, to participate in the Organizational Excellence and Accountability Strategic Theme Work Group to revise the Border Patrol Strategic Plan. In 2015, she worked with Border Patrol Headquarters and led a workgroup with personnel from other sectors to update the promotional process. From July 2020 through February 2021, PAIC McKeon was on detail to U.S. Army North in San Antonio where she served as the CBP Liaison to the Military.
Prior to joining the Border Patrol, PAIC McKeon earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Administration of Justice from the University of Missouri – Kansas City.
